Project Child Safe

The Fayette County Sheriff's Department will provide free firearm safety kits to local residents through a partnership with Project Child Safe, the nationwide firearms safety education program.  The safety kits which include a gun lock will be distributed at the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in Fayetteville.  Sgt. T.N. Mooney and will be incorporating some of the information during the STARS program at local schools.

Project Child Safe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation has distributed more than 35 million firearm safety kits throughout the country since 2003.  The program is funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant with additional funding provided by the firearms industry.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is encouraging residents to pick up a Project Child Safe safety kit so that they can securely store their firearms.  Each kit contains a safety curriculum and a cable style gun lock.  The goal is to prevent a child or any other unauthorized person from accessing a firearm in your home.

By partnering with Project Child Safe, Fayette County Sheriff's Office is participating in a national effort to promote firearms safety education to all gun owners.  One kit is distributed with every concealed weapons permit issuance, and the kits are continuously renewed by the Sheriff ensuring a steady supply of gun locks and safety literature.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has distributed a tremendous number of the safety kits since February of 2009.  They are completely free to the public with no restrictions.
